This involves any of the massage styles with Gua Sha (aka 'Scraping') incorporated into the massage. Gua Sha (“gwah shaw”) comes from a Chinese word for scraping. It’s a traditional Chinese healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a specially designed stainless steel massage tool to treat musculoskeletal discomfort and issues. This technique purposely creates light markings on the skin, which may appear as purple or red “bruising” or tiny spots/rash bumps known as petechiae (a sign of breaking down old adhesions and new blood renewal). Communicate with your massage therapist to tailor the treatment to your liking!
